Imported Mailchimp Contacts as Unsubscribed? Here is the fix

Time needed: 5 minutes.

If you’ve imported contacts into Mailchimp as Unsubscribed, Cleaned or Non-Subscribed then you won’t be able to send email marketing to those people.
These instructions details the steps needed to change the status of your contacts to Subscribed so that you are able to send email campaigns to these people.
Once you’ve imported contacts into Mailchimp with a status of Unsubscribed, Cleaned or Non-Subscribed you are unable to change the status to Subscribed (the status required to be able to send email marketing).
The way around the issue is to reverse your import and then reimport the contacts with a status of Subscribed.

  1. Undo your contact import

While viewing your Contacts click ‘Manage contacts’ then ‘ Import history’. Click the ‘Undo’ button next to the import you want to import and confirm that you want to undo the import.

  2. Import contacts as Subscribed

Import the contacts with a status of Subscribed.

    Hi.
For some reason, people who subscribe to my newsletter through a pop up on my site get imported as non-subscribed. Don’t know why, but shouldn’t they be automatically subscribed? I’m not importing them. They’re doing it themselves.

    Thanks.

Check the form on your website as it is likely forcing the status of Unsubscribed.
