A common issue that people have in Mailchimp is that the first names they have for contacts in their Audience are in lowercase characters. It can be very time consuming changing the first letter of every first name to be uppercase. The issue becomes evident, and looks unprofessional, when inserting each contact’s first name into an email marketing campaign; Mailchimp buy default inserts the recipients first name as it appears in your Mailchimp Audience.
The step-by-step instructions below show how to first add the first name for each subscriber into email campaigns and then how to make Mailchimp automatically capitalize the first letter of each first name.
- Insert the First Name merge tag in your email campaign
When in the ‘ Content’ section of your email campaign, wherever you want the recipients first name to appear, insert a text block. Place your cursor in the text block and click ‘Merge Tags’ and then ‘ First Name (Popular)’.
- Instruct Mailchimp to uppercase the first letter of the first name
Change the text *|FNAME|* to *|TITLE:FNAME|*. Each recipient will now have their first name added to your email campaign with a capital first letter.
