If you add recipes to your WordPress Site then you SHOULD be using this Plugin
Rich Snippets / Microformats / RDFa define text for machines. This means that Search Engines can understand in what context certain text is being used. This review that you are reading is formatted in Microformats hReview. All reviews using the hReview format are therefore consistent in their data presentation which makes it far simpler for Google, Bing and other Search Engines to understand what the various ‘parts’ of the review are about (and good SEO practice dictates that we should be doing everything we can for Search bots to navigate and understand our content).
The Search Engines have been indexing and displaying hReview and hCard for awhile and now it has become obvious that Google is indexing hRecipe data. A few days back I was putting together a Website for a chef who will be Posting recipes on his WordPress Site. Of course I could have recommended to the chef each time he Posts a recipe he merely lists the contents and quantity of ingredients and then provide some instructions. The problem with this method is that there won’t be consistency in presentation and Search Engines will be made to figure out the meaning of the data for themselves.
I was thrilled to find on searching Plugins at WordPress.org that there is a Recipe Plugin called RecipeSEO that makes inserting recipes into Posts using the hRecipe microformat extremely easy. This is a great help in getting my chef customer to insert recipes in a consistent manner (and I can then style the recipes using CSS) whilst also making the recipe data understood by the Search Engines (and therefore increasing the chance of the recipes appearing more prominently in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs)).
The RecipeSEO Plugin is just so simple to use; install and activate the Plugin and then click the ‘Add a Recipe’ icon in the Post or Page editor. Fill the fields and click ‘Add Recipe’. Once inserted the recipe can be edited very easily through the usual WordPress Post or Page editor.
This is an excellent Plugin and I totally recommend using it for adding Recipes to your Website (for non-WordPress Sites, the Plugin author provides a means of attaining the hRecipe Microformats code to insert as HTML into your Site).
