I cannot wait for the newest version of WordPress, version 3.9 to be released next month (April 2014). Two bits of functionality that nearly every one of my clients ask about have been simplified; pasting from Microsoft Word and adding images.
Paste from Word directly into the page editor
WordPress uses a WYSIWYG editor called TinyMCE to enable adding text and styling to pages and posts. Until now, one could type up the text in Microsoft Word and then use the Paste from Word icon to paste Word content into WordPress (Microsoft Word doesn’t create standards compliant HTML therefore TinyMCE would need to convert Word to HTML).
WordPress 3.9 is set to include a new version of TinyMCE. Included in the new text editor version is the ability to paste from Word directly into the WordPress page or post editor. The editor will automatically detect that the content has been pasted from Word and will create clean HTML from Word. No more clicking icons and pasting into tiny screens when pasting from Word into WordPress!
Drag and drop images directly into the page editor
Adding images into a page or post is as simple as clicking the Add Media button and then dragging and dropping an image into the new media screen. Whilst simple, this did mean various extra clicks.
In version 3.9 adding an image to a page or post is as simple as dragging and dropping an image into the page or post editor. No more having to click the Add Media button.
WordPress 3.9 is scheduled to be released on April 15, 2014.
