I recently installed Intense Debate to manage the commenting on my WordPress Website (via the Intense Debate Plugin). What I didn’t realise was that, even although I don’t have comments enabled for Pages on my Site, Intense Debate leaves an annoying message if comments are disabled. The message appearing at the end of each Page was ‘Commenting Disabled Commenting on this page has been disabled by the blog admin.’
Steps I took to Resolve the Problem
I’m certain there must be a simple means of not displaying the comment message on Pages where commenting is disabled but I couldn’t find a solution. I ensured that ‘Allow Comments’ wasn’t enabled on any Pages and searched the Web but to no avail. Eventually however buried deep in a ‘third party’ Intense Debate forum I found the beginnings of a solution.
How to Remove ‘Commenting Disabled Commenting on this page has been disabled by the blog admin.’
So, without further ado, here is how to remove all traces of Intense Debate when you haven’t allowed comments on a Page (or multiple Pages):
- In the WordPress dashboard go to Appearance -> Editor
- Ensure that your active Theme is selected in ‘Select Theme to edit‘
- Click comments.php
- Enter the following code below the first
- Click ‘Update File’
Some Themes won’t have a comments.php file as comments may be ‘called’ via another file (for those using Artisteer generated Themes you are in luck; you will have comments.php). It will then be necessary to locate where comments are ‘called’ and add the code as above to that file.
