Below are three very simple WordPress housekeeping tips. The below will take just a few minutes and will make your WordPress Website more secure, faster and more reliable.
- Apply updates: For security reasons you absolutely must apply updates to your WordPress Website as they become available. Updates are regularly available for WordPress software itself, Plugins and Themes. Updates are quick and simple to apply (hint – make sure you have a recent backup before applying updates).
- Use a very strong password: Hackers are constantly trying to get into Websites. Hackers use Bots that try many different passwords very quickly in brute-force attacks. You can make your Website far more secure by using a strong password. A great password generator may be found at DuckDuckGo.
- Delete inactive Plugins and Themes: There is no good reason to keep Plugins and Themes when they aren’t active on your Website. These inactive Plugins and Themes may increase the risk of hackers gaining access to your Website; remember the TimThumb security fiasco? Many Websites had Plugins or Themes installed that weren’t being used that contained the vulnerability. If the inactive Themes and Plugins were removed the risk would have been far less.
