Transactional email sending services are designed for high deliverability in addition to being configured to send very large quantities of messages. Just because transactional email services are of great quality doesn’t mean that they are cost prohibitive for small Organisations; in fact, like Mailgun, some services have a generous free allowance per month. If you have a small Shopify or WooCommerce eCommerce store then you really have no excuse not to be taking advantage of a transactional email service.
Below are listed three of the better transactional email sending services.
Mandrill
Best for medium volume sending.
Mandrill is a service by Mailchimp and is incredibly fast in sending and enjoys very high deliverability. As a Mailchimp expert I often get asked the difference between Mandrill and Mailchimp. Mailchimp offer various good articles about the difference.
Amazon SES
Best for high volume sending.
SES is relatively low cost and is an excellent service for high volume senders.
Mailgun
Best for low volume sending.
Mailgun is a good choice for low volume senders due to the free account (the free account allows up to 10,000 send per month). Mailgun is however also used by large volume senders such as Xero who use Mailgun for their clients invoice, quote and receipt sending.
If you need help with integrating a transactional email service with your system then contact Gary.
Hi Gary,
Thanks for the article. This is really helpful, especially in an industry where there is so much confusion about how to send transactional email and select the right ESP.
I didn’t realize that Mailgun integrates with WooCommerce. That’s pretty cool. I wish I had known that last year when I was setting up a WooCommerce site.
Also, would you mind adding SocketLabs.com to your list?
I work over at SocketLabs. We tend to get some of the highest deliverability rates, mainly because we are more exclusive. We try to work with only reputable senders. At times we’ve even rejected up to 60% of new customers, just to maintain high deliverability platform wide. Right now, everybody in the industry is trying to grab as much market share as possible. And while it’s always nice to have new business, we just want to help our customers send quality mail that hits the inbox.
I’d be happy to give you some more information if you’re interested.
Thanks!
