Here are a few tips that will help improve the results you get from your email marketing campaigns.
Keep Your Email Campaign Simple
Most people glance at an email message and decide whether to read more or not. You have a split second to grab the attention of the reader. In the video below I describe the email marketing layout used by organisations that get great results from email marketing.
Your Images Won’t Show For Some Subscribers
Most email readers (Outlook, Gmail etc) have a setting whereby images in an email message can be stopped from loading. In many organisations it is a corporate policy that images don’t load by default. As the sender of an email message we cannot override the blocking of images. We therefore need to be aware of this issue and use best practice in case images don’t display for any readers.
The best way for you as the sender to cater for images not showing for some people is:
- Don’t save text on an image (PNG, JPG or GIF) and then add the image to your email campaign. Instead type text into text blocks.
- Make sure you have enough text (typed in a text block) so that if images don’t show, then the purpose of the email campaign remains intact.
- Don’t use images as buttons. Use the default button content block in Mailchimp as this will show even if images are set not to be shown.
Use A High Quality Service Provider
I really can’t stress enough how important it is that you use a reputable email marketing service. Good email marketing services take years establishing their sending reputation which relates to a higher chance of your subscribers seeing the email marketing you send them (i.e. so the message doesn’t automatically get identified as spam).
I get people asking why they should use a service such as Mailchimp to send email marketing when they can use Microsoft Outlook for no additional cost. There are many reasons to use a specialist email marketing service such as; email marketing services send from thousands of IP addresses, email marketing services warm-up their IP addresses, mass personalization is very difficult in Outlook, reporting is way better in email marketing services and so on. There is a distinct difference between email software that is created for one-to-one or one-to-few sending and email marketing services that are designed for sending one-to-many.
