With a large client I’ve been trialling a means of getting relevant feedback from subscribers to determine if the content being sent in email marketing can be improved. Quite simply the email campaign recipient is asked to rate the relevancy of the email message. We could deduce form the email campaign open and click rates in addition to where people are clicking in the email message as to where interests lie but it’s always good to try new means of feedback.
A welcome by-product of this testing has been that fewer people have unsubscribed. This is a very positive outcome. Below I give instructions as to how you can, in Mailchimp, add a feedback survey to your email campaign.
Time needed: 5 minutes
Learn how to add a poll to the footer of your Mailchimp email campaigns. This encourages contacts to provide feedback as opposed to unsubscribing. The instructions below describe how to allow your subscribers to provide feedback in your email campaign.
- Design your email campaign
In Mailchimp, start to create an email campaign as you normally would.
- Add a “Text”content block
When in the “Design” screen, add a “Text” content block where you’d like the feedback option to appear.
- Add a simple poll
In the text block you added in the previous step, add the following (this is called a poll in Mailchimp):
*|POLL:RATING:x|* Type or paste your poll question text here. *|END:POLL|*
Add the question you want your subscribers to answer and style the content as you see fit. Be sure to click “Save and Close” in the text block in order to save your poll. - Test and send your email campaign
Be sure to test that your poll is showing correctly and then send to your subscribers.
- View your Mailchimp report
You’ll be able to see how many people clicked each number in the poll in your campaign report:
1. In Mailchimp, navigate to the “Reports” page.
2. Click “View Report” for the campaign you want to work with.
3. Click the “Analytics360” tab.
4. Scroll down to the “Poll Results” section.
