A question that I get asked once in awhile is how a sent Mailchimp campaign may be amended or recalled. Quite simply it isn’t possible to recall a Mailchimp campaign.
Some Mailchimp customers can cancel sending a campaign
Mailchimp Pro subscribers (Mailchimp Pro is a $199 p.m. add-on) have the option of stopping sending of an email campaign. This doesn’t recall messages already sent by Mailchimp but rather cancells sending of any messages not already sent by Mailchimp.
The cancelling of further sending in Mailchimp Pro does have a few attached criteria such as the campaign must have at least 10,000 recipients and the campaign must be a regular or plain-text campaign.
I can recall in Outlook so why can’t Mailchimp?
It is a common fallacy that all send messages from Microsoft Outlook can be recalled. If you action a recall in Outlook then the recall will only work if the recipient also uses Outlook, a rule hasn’t moved the message, the message is hasn’t been read nor viewed in the preview pane or reading pane or various other conditions.
Unfortunately the bottom line with email sending is that recalling of messages is very unlikely to work. Changing the content of an email messages after sending also won’t work.
If you use Mailchimp then remember to preview and test your campaign extensively before sending.
