How to Identify Mailchimp Contacts that are Inactive

Time needed: 5 minutes.

It’s simple in Mailchimp to identify your contacts that aren’t engaged with your marketing. The instructions below show how create a segment of subscribers that aren’t opening or clicking your email campaigns. You could then send these contacts a re-engagement campaign or archive the contacts.

  1. View your Contacts

Login to Mailchimp, click “Audience” in the main menu. Select the Audience in which your contacts are and click the “View Contacts” button.

  2. Create a New Segment of Inactive Contacts

Click “New Segment” then select “Contact Rating” in the first column, “is” in the second column and the one star icon in the third column. Click “Preview Segment” then “Save Segment”. Name your segment anything meaningful to you and then click the “Save” button.

  3. View your Inactive Contacts

When you’d like to see all contacts that are inactive then view your contacts and click “View Segment” then the name of the segment you created above. You’re now easily able to send a re-engagement campaign or archive these contacts.
