In Mailchimp we are able to create a landing page. I demonstrate in my Mailchimp classes how to create a Mailchimp landing page however few people understand the benefits of landing pages and how they actually work.
What is a Landing Page
A landing page is typically a distraction-free web-page that focuses on a single action that the visitors should take. Typically landing pages are used for specific products, services or to gain leads (i.e. have the visitor fill a form).
As an example, the image below shows an Uber landing page that is designed for people that search Google for words related to driving for Uber or a competitor. Uber have their website however a landing page that answers the visitors questions without distracting the visitor will get more leads (visitors filling the form).
How Do People Find My Landing Page?
A landing page is simply a webpage on the internet. As such anyone with your landing page hyperlink will be able to view the page. There is also the potential that your landing page will show in the Google SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).
Typically organisations will promote their landing pages via email marketing, advertising and social media.
Is a Landing Page Part of My Website?
Mailchimp hosts your landing page for you. That your landing page is separate from your website will be invisible to visitors should you use your domain name. I explain more below about using your domain name (website address) for your Mailchimp created and hosted web page.
What Will My Landing URL Be?
You have two options in Mailchimp when it comes to the domain name that will be used for your landing page:
Using Your Domain Name
You may connect your own domain name with Mailchimp and then use your domain name for your landing pages. This is preferable for most organizations as it will then be invisible to visitors that your landing page is separate to your website.
If, for example, your domain name is example.com then your landing page URL will be something like https://example.com/summer-dresses.
Using the Mailchi.mp Domain Name
Should you choose not to connect your domain name with Mailchimp (or you’re on a free Mailchimp account) then you may use the Mailchimp domain name of mailchi.mp. In this case your landing page URL will look something like https://mailchi.mp/example/summer-dresses.
What do Mailchimp Landing Pages Cost?
Mailchimp allows for the unlimited creating and publishing of landing pages for no cost. If you’re on a free Mailchimp account you’ll need to use the mailchi.mp domain for your landing page however if you’re on a paid Mailchimp account you may use your domain name.
