This post is about file-sizes. If you’re looking for guidance on Mailchimp image dimensions, please see the separate post.
The Content Manager in Mailchimp shows the images and files that you’ve uploaded to Mailchimp. Any files, including images, that you’ve uploaded are shown in the Content Manager for simple reuse in future campaigns.
Allowed Mailchimp file-types
There are many file types that may be uploaded and stored in your Content Manager. The file-types allowed to be uploaded to the Mailchimp Content Manager are:
File Type | Extensions |
---|---|
Text files | .txt, .csv, .log, .css, .ics |
Image files | .jpg, .jpe, .jpeg, .gif, .png, .bmp, .psd, .tif, .tiff, .svg, .indd, .ai, .eps |
Document files | .doc, .docx, .rtf, .odt, .ott, .pdf, .pub, .pages, .mobi, .epub |
Audio files | .mp3, .m4a, .m4v, .wma, .ogg, .flac, .wav, .aif, .aifc, .aiff, |
Video files | .mp4, .mov, .avi, .mkv, .mpeg, .mpg, .wmv |
Spreadsheet files | .xls, .xlsx, .ods, .numbers |
Presentation files | .odp, .ppt, .pptx, .pps, .key |
Archive files | .zip, .vcf |
Tip: A file attachment cannot be sent with an email campaign. A link to a file in the Content Manager may however be sent which acts in a very similar way to sending an attachment. See instructions on how to link to a file (in place of an attachment) in Mailchimp.
Maximum Mailchimp file-sizes
The maximum file-sizes that may be uploaded into the Content Manager are:
- 1 MB for images (e.g. .jpg)
- 10MB for other allowed file-types (e.g. .pdf)
Tip: To reduce file sizes (particularly images) without losing quality use a service such as; Compressor.io, Kraken or, if you use windows, FileOptimizer.
Gary,
I am unable to upload .MP3 file in the Content Manager of the Mailchimp. The size of the file is 113,189KB. Can you shed some light? When an attempt to upload mailchimp gives error message “Can’t upload the file type”.
Dipti, the main issues with the file you’re trying to upload to the Mailchimp Content Manager (as far as I can tell) if that Mailchimp allows for a maximum file size of 10 MB (the file you’re trying to upload is about 113MB). There could also be an issue with the file itself (e.g. the header etc.). The best way to send a link to your file is by uploading the file to Dropbox or another shared file service (see https://organicweb.com.au/marketing/better-mailchimp-attachments/).
Image dimensions are also restricted. Check pixel dimensions. That might be your problem.
