How to Crop an Image in Mailchimp

Once you know how, cropping an image using the Mailchimp image editor (also called the “photo editor“) is simple. There are a few things to know however that cause many people issues.

In these instructions I show how to crop images in Mailchimp and where things can go wrong.

Note: I have separate instructions available about how to resize images in Mailchimp.

Video Transcript

Hi. I’m Gary from organicwebcomau.wpcomstaging.com and I’m a Mailchimp partner. If you would like me to cover in a video how to use certain aspects of Mailchimp please leave a comment in this video and subscribe to my channel.

In this particular video I’m going to show you how we can crop images in Mailchimp. It’s actually really really simple. So I’ll go into Mailchimp itself; we’re in the “Content studio” at the moment in Mailchimp where our images are kept. I’ll click on an image that I want to crop. This particular image is from Wikipedia and it’s from my hometown of Brisbane Australia. I want to crop the image so what I’ll do is click “Edit image”. The trick here, and some people just don’t know how to do it, is to click “Custom” so make sure your “Custom” is selected and select or deselect the “lock dimensions” and then all we need to do is just drag however we’d like to crop our image. That’s all we need to do but where most people are going wrong is that they don’t have “Custom” selected and they have “lock dimensions” selected. Make sure that’s not selected. So all we need to do is click “Save” and now Mailchimp will keep the original version of our image and the new version. And that’s all there is to it.

Thanks for joining me.
