How to add role-based email addresses to Mailchimp

Mailchimp generally do not allow importing of role-based email addresses from CSV or Excel files into your list. Fortunately there are two ways around this issue.

Role-based email addresses include the following:

  • abuse@
  • admin@
  • billing@
  • compliance@
  • devnull@
  • dns@
  • ftp@
  • hostmaster@
  • inoc@
  • ispfeedback@
  • ispsupport@
  • list-request@
  • list@
  • maildaemon@
  • noc@
  • no-reply@
  • noreply@
  • null@
  • phish@
  • phishing@
  • postmaster@
  • privacy@
  • registrar@
  • root@
  • security@
  • spam@
  • support@
  • sysadmin@
  • tech@
  • undisclosed-recipients@
  • unsubscribe@
  • usenet@
  • uucp@
  • webmaster@
  • www@

Mailchimp generally do not allow the importing of these email addresses into a list. There is good reason for this; it is very simple for spammers to guess that a domain will have role-based email addresses and there is a higher than normal complaint rate when email marketing is sent to role-based email addresses.

Fortunately there are two ways that role-based email addresses may be added to your Mailchimp list.

To do:

  1. Add each role-based email address individually to your list or
  2. Setup an integration (role-based email addresses are usually added to your Mailchimp list when added via an integratio).

Note: An integration such as a website signup form will usually allow for the adding of role-based email addresses toy our list.
