I often hear of people that take hours to create and send a Mailchimp email campaign. There really isn’t any reason that it should be taking that long; if you’re following best practice then creating and sending an effective email marketing campaign should be taking minutes (yes the content itself, such as video and text, may take longer).
Here are a few tips to speed up your email campaign creation:
Define the objective of your campaign
This seems so obvious but few people are absolutely clear before starting, as to what they want to achieve from the email campaign. Think of the one thing you want to achieve from the EDM (e.g. sell product Y). Our subscribers have attention spans of less than a goldfish so if we’re not clear about what we want our recipients to do, they clearly will be confused.
By being clear about the objective of your campaign, you’ll spend less time amending content.
Replicate a past campaign
The advice I give in Mailchimp classes regarding templates is as follows:
- Create your first campaign using a default Mailchimp template. Spend time getting your branding right.
- When creating future campaigns merely replicate the campaign you created above. Your styling will already be consistent with your brand.
I have heard from many training attendees that this has saved them a huge amount of time and effort when creating new campaigns.
Simplify and minimize
If your content or layout is confusing to your readers they will very quickly delete your email. Your layout should be simple and clear with alot of white-space and well sized text.
As for the amount of content, in general, what works is having less content and a link (in the form of a button) where the viewer can click to read more.
Not only will simplifying your design and content result is more opens and clicks but you’ll also save time creating campaigns.
Use freely available resources
Using free to use content means less time having to search for resources that you’d otherwise use (and there is an abundance of really great free content).
using the four tips above will definitely speed up your mail marketing.
