The Project
The Australian National University (ANU) is a top ranked Australian University. As the world was hit by COVID in 2020 ANU contacted Gary with the following requirements for their printing and press division, ANU Press:
- Increase orders via Mailchimp email marketing.
- Reduce manual tasks.
- Reduce marketing costs.
- Keep all tasks in-house (within ANU Press).
The Three Services That Delivered Resounding Results
Mailchimp Consulting
Results were needed fast. It was decided to implement changes in an iterative approach employing marketing agility. Mailchimp was to be used as much as possible including Mailchimp Customer Journeys to automate tasks.
Mailchimp Implementation Services
Tasks such as integrating the ANU Press website signup forms and out-of-stock notices were completed initially. The number of Audiences in Mailchimp were reduced and Groups used so contacts can select their marketing preferences were then performed.
Mailchimp Training
The ANU Press Team were already familiar with Mailchimp email marketing. Custom training was delivered with a focus on; targeting marketing, increasing opens and improving the click rate.
With a collection now exceeding 940 titles and 5 million downloads annually, ANU Press emerged from the turmoil of 2020 as one of the world’s largest open-access publishing houses.

Email Marketing Subscribers
A 53% increase in subscribers for a large organization is a great achievement. To achieve this increase within months is remarkable.
