One of my most popular articles on this website has been instructions on how to add an attachment to a Mailchimp email campaign. A question that often arises is if the file attachment may be edited after the sending of the email campaign. If the attachment is saved to the Mailchimp Content Studio then unfortunately the file may not be edited.
Time needed: 2 minutes
Because of people wanting to edit a Mailchimp file attachment after sending, as well as needing the ability to delete a file so that it won’t show for people in the email attachment, instructions are given below for an alternate means of adding an “attachment” to an email campaign.
Due to the file is added to Dropbox (or Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive etc.) and then linked to from your Mailchimp email campaign, the file may be edited after sending your email campaign.
- Add a button to your campaign
Open your campaign in the Mailchimp campaign editor and add a button using the button content block.
- Add your attachment file to Dropbox
Upload the file you want to send as an attachment to Dropbox (Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Apple iCloud and others will also work).
- Copy the link for your file
In Dropbox (or Google Drive etc.) copy the shared link for the file.
- Edit your Mailchimp button
In Mailchimp add the Dropbox file link as copied above to the “Web address (URL)” to your button. Also change the “Button Text”to be something like “Download Now”.
- Amend the “Attachment”in Dropbox
If you need to amend the file that you linked to as per the instructions above, merely edit the file in Dropbox.
