That Skype click to call browser add-on is a pain in the butt! The whole idea behind the add-in is that Skype is meant to identify telephone numbers on a Webpage. It then ‘highlights’ the numbers (often referred to as a button) which allows for people with the add-in to click the telephone number to call via Skype.
The problem is that the click to call add-in identifies all sorts of numbers as telephone numbers e.g. stock item numbers if you have an Online shop. Also, for Website developers the Plugin proves a headache; customers ask why telephone numbers are showing as Skype highlighted. For some reason clients want the Skype add-in to identify phone numbers on all Sites except their own. Explaining that Skype is identifying the number as a phone number because, well, it is a telephone number just doesn’t cut it! Aaahhhhhhhh!
How to remove Skype Call to Click for WordPress
Anyway, before I get too frustrated about this all, here is the fix that should work with most WordPress Websites in getting the Skype Click to Call button not to show on your Website.
- Install and activate the WordPress Header and Footer Plugin
- Go to the Page Header and Footer tab on the Plugin settings
- Go to the head text area
- Insert the following into the head text area
<meta name="SKYPE_TOOLBAR" content="SKYPE_TOOLBAR_PARSER_COMPATIBLE" />
- Save the change
That annoying Skype button should no longer show when people with the add-in installed visit your Website.
P.S. If this solution has helped you then please share on Facebook, Google+, Twitter etc. to save the sanity of other Web designers 🙂
