AddThis is a social sharing service. I’ve installed the AddThis WordPress Plugin on many Websites and use it on my own. With the Plugin, sharing icons/buttons are shown in Pages and/or Posts making it simple for visitors to share the content with services such as Google+, Facebook, Twitter and so on. This is very beneficial for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as well as general visitor engagement.
Why I believe AddThis to be better than competing services is the analytics provided in the WordPress Dashboard (see how many people have shared content and to which services) as well as the buttons shown to each visitor being customized to the services that the visitor uses most often (very clever and results in a better chance of the visitor sharing).
Help – My Sharing Buttons don’t show
For some reason my AddThis sharing buttons suddenly stopped showing. I wasn’t going to install another sharing service plugin as the AddThis analytics are important to me and I’ve been very happy with the Plugin for a few years on over 100 Sites. The problem is just on my Website. I decided to engage the AddThis Plugin authors via the WordPress support forums.
Support that rocks
It became quickly obvious that there is something on my Website that is causing the sharing buttons to fail to show (i.e. it isn’t an AddThis Plugin problem). What I have been absolutely ‘bowled over’ by is the seriously good communication and willingness to help by Matt Keesan at AddThis. The Plugin is free, the sharing is free and the service is better than 99% of paid services. Matt and the team at AddThis really didn’t need to assist me as the problem is with my Theme but they really went out of their way to help. Unbelievable!
P.S. If you’re reading this on my Site and don’t see the AddThis buttons then this is because some code on my Site is misbehaving … it isn’t AddThis causing problems 🙂
