I have a Dell laptop. I upgraded to Microsoft Windows 10 with no issues at all from Windows 8.1. I then applied various Dell provided software and driver updates and suddenly my laptop wouldn’t power-down. I’d click Start then Power and Shutdown and my computer would, at best enter a kind of sleep mode. Only pressing and holding the power button would shut down the computer (and this tended to use alot of battery so I’d often find my battery flat).
The solution that I found to work was updating various Intel software and drivers. I’m not sure exactly which update provided the fix but mt laptop is now shutting down perfectly. Here is what I did yo fix the power-off problem:
- Download and install the Intel Driver Update Utility.
- Open the newly installed software.
- Click Start Scan.
- Install updates as necessary
The fix as above is not specific to Dell computers and should work for Lenovo, HP, Toshiba, Acer and any other computer brands that use Intel hardware and software.
