I love Microsoft Windows 10; I find it easy to use and reliable. An issue that suddenly appeared however is that each time I tried to open a JPG or JPEG image, the photo wouldn’t open and I’d get an error popup noting that the remote procedure call failed. Although I’ve worked with Windows for many years (Windows 3.1 to Windows NT to Windows 8 through to now) I still get baffled by the very general RPC error messages.
Fortunately it’s simple to fix this Windows 10 JPG/JPEG RPC problem. Follow the instructions below:
- Click Start.
- Click Settings.
- Click System.
- Click Default Apps.
- Under Photo Viewer click Photos.
- Select Paint when the Choose an app window appears.
I have noticed that if you click Look for an app in the store in the Choose an app window per the instructions above, then a further RPC error will appear with the text being ms-windows-store:Assoc?fileext=.jpg or ms-windows-store:Assoc?fileext=.jpeg. Use an already installed app if you do get this error message.
