I must be the last person in Australia that still uses Vodafone for mobile phone and mobile broadband! I also know that Vodafone is doing the best to get rid of me as a customer. And how do I know this?
Well, I work from Home and ‘on the road’ alot. When away from Home I use a Vodafone Mobile Broadband USB stick and at home I use Internode for ADSL. Now, before I even get started on today’s Vodafone problems I’d appreciate the chorus of ‘but why are you still with Vodafone’ to quieten down because quite honestly I have no valid reason to be with Vodafone.
Anyway, so today I headed for my usual morning ritual which is a coffee at a local coffee shop where I also do a bit of work on my laptop. As I connected to the Vodafone mobile broadband network I received an SMS from Vodafone saying my pre-paid month had ended therefore needed to recharge. So far, no problems!
How do I recharge when Vodafone won’t let me?
The ‘you need to recharge’ SMS from Vodafone included a URL that I needed to go to in order to recharge. Here is the body of the SMS from Vodafone:
Please recharge your account. Your remaining balance expired today. Visit broadband.vodafone.com.au/manage.
And now is where the problems start; there is no way I could get to the recharge Page. I restarted my laptop, reconnected to Vodafone mobile broadband, tried Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome browsers and I just couldn’t get to the Vodafone recharge Page. So, onto the next option to recharge; call Vodafone Customer care and ask them to do the recharge for me.
How to reach Vodafone Customer Care?
On the Vodafone Recharge Voucher there is a help number (1555). So I called this number four times. The problem is that Vodafone mobile phone reception is so ‘patchy’ in the area of Sydney in which I live that my calls kept getting dropped (by the way, it’s not as if I live in the bush somewhere, as I live in a built up residential area). It’s also ironic that an apology by Vodafone regarding their ‘intermittent network issues‘ also advises to use 1555 for Support.
Eventually I was so fed up with trying to give Vodafone my money that I came home and recharged using my trusted Internode ADSL connection.
Yes Vodafone, you win, I will leave you as a customer!
P.S. After recharging my Vodafone mobile broadband via fixed-line ADSL I needed to attain a receipt from Vodafone and received the following error when trying to retrieve my Vodafone password:
