It has been all over the news the past few days how a prominent technology reporter had his iPhone, iPad, Mac, iCloud etc. all accessed by a ‘hacker’. The hack was essentially social engineering as Apple support provided the hacker with login details to the reporters Apple account details. This affair has been widely reported but how can one secure a single login breach being the source of access to multiple accounts.
Fortunately there is a very simple solution. Thanks to Google 2 Step Verification, combined with the Google Authenticator App (for Android, iPhone, Blackberry, Windows etc.), your Google account as well as various other accounts can be significantly hardened. I use 2 Step verification for my Google Account (including for 3rd party apps such as Mozilla Thunderbird) as well as my Amazon AWS account and it works very well. It’s well worth using.
