I use a Canon digital camcorder with an SD card. I love using SD cards instead of tape. Now, my Canon camcorder is a model which records video in MOD video format (i.e. video is stored on the SD card with a MOD extension), which has caused confusion for many (including me!). For some reason I have had a few problems uploading MOD movie files to YouTube and Flickr although both apparently accept MOD format.
Anyway, after ages trying to figure out how to convert MOD to MPG files (MPG is one of the most commonly used movie/video formats) I finally stumbled upon the answer; just change the MOD extension to MPG i.e. change your video file from moviename.MOD to moviename.MPG and hey-presto you have an MPG/MPEG-2 file.
So in summary, to convert a MOD file to MPG/MPEG-2 file, merely change the file extension from .MOD to .MPG
P.S. Canon, JVC and Panasonic Camcorders record with MOD format
