What to do if 1Password won’t accept your password

Instructions to fix 1Password on Windows 10I recently decided to start using 1Password version 6 (I previously used 1Password 4). The reason I upgraded was to get access to 1Password Families and 1Password Teams. I uninstalled 1Password version 4 from all my devices and installed version 6 (as well as creating an online login).

On one of my Windows 10 PCs I just couldn’t get the new version of 1Password to recognise either my old or new password. I could login to 1Password online but the Microsoft Windows version and Google Chrome extension of 1Password wouldn’t let me login.

How to fix 1Password on Windows

I searched for an answer but eventually contacted 1Password support. Below is an amended response I received from 1Password (I’ve added a few additional details that worked to get 1Password to recognise my password.

  1. Open Windows File Explorer and enter the following in the address bar: LOCALAPPDATA%\1Password
  2. Rename data folder to backup-data
  3. Uninstall 1Password.
  4. Install 1Password.
  5. Open 1Password and sign in to your account.

I hope the instructions above help you sign-in to 1Password.
