Many Mailchimp users aren’t aware of how simple it is to add and resize images in Mailchimp itself. I created the video below showing how to add images and then use Mailchimp to resize the images automatically.
Video Transcript for resizing images in Mailchimp
Hi this is Gary from OrganicWeb.
I often get asked in Mailchimp training how much work needs to be done outside of Mailchimp to get images the correct sizes. Well the good news is that Mailchimp actually resizes the images for you. Let me demonstrate.
So we’re viewing a campaign or a template that I’m about to create. I’m going to just drag and drop an image group card anywhere that I want the images to appear from my computer. I’m then just going to drag and drop two images. Now the images are going to be very big and they’re going to be different proportions; different sizes. So the first image I’m just going to drag and drop onto my template or campaign Note the message this image is so big it may obliterate inboxes. Images should be around 600 to 800 wide. Let’s fix it. So I click let’s fix it and it said to me make it between 600 and 800 wide so I’ll make it 650 wide just as an, you know, as an example and I click apply. I click save and Mailchimp will automatically resize that image for me so I don’t need to do it outside of Mailchimp.
Let’s add a second image. Now I’m going to drag and drop it from my computer. Drop in the image and what you’ll notice from this image is that it’s actually different proportions to the one next to it. Doesn’t look great but let’s deal with the first message that appears; this image is so big and may obliterate inboxes make it 600 to 800 wide I click it to fix it again. I’m going to make it 600 wide for now. I’m going to click apply. Click save so it’s going to reduce the size of the image automatically for me. I don’t need to do it outside of Mailchimp. But look at this; the proportions of this image differ from the one next to it. Let’s fix it. Doesn’t look great does it so we click let’s fix it. I just drag the box to wherever I want that image cropped and click apply. Click save. There we go; same proportions and now they’re smaller.
We don’t need to do anything outside of Mailchimp itself but just a word of advice; keep your images always to minimum of 600 pixels wide.
Mailchimp has changed their image editor. Now I can’t change pixels, just crop and their ‘knowledge base’ has not been updated. Ridiculous!
I just found this as well!! Resizing was working just a couple of hours ago but now I can only crop?!
