In Mailchimp it’s really simple to add people to perform various activities in your account (also called Multi-user accounts). For example you may need assistance from a Mailchimp Expert or you may have someone that creates your campaigns for you. Rather than give out your username and password for your Mailchimp account it’s far more secure and practical to add users with appropriate permissions to your account.
Add permissions for someone to access your Mailchimp account
Follow these instructions to add a user to your account. The various permissions and what they can do are described on the Mailchimp Invite a User page. The available permissions are; Viewer, Author, Manager and Admin.
- Login to Mailchimp.
- Click your name in the upper right of the screen.
- Click Account.
- Click Account settings then Account users.
- Click Invite a User.
- Add the email address of the person to be added to your account and select the user type (permissions).
- Click Send Invite.
The user you’ve added will now receive an email notifying them that they have access to your account. You may of course revoke permissions at any time.
Do you know how many users can be on a single free
MailChimp account? I can’t seem to find that info anywhere.
I’m not aware of any limits for the number of users for free or paid accounts.
If a user is added to an account, is it possible to limit mailing lists they have access to?
No. This is not possible in Mailchimp.
I have a system message telling me that I cannot add further users to a free account and I only have four users
Mailchimp have recently change their plans and free accounts now have a maximum of one user (if you migrated from an ‘old’ free plan then you are able to keep existing users but not add more).
Hi Gary – our free MailChimp account has 3 users “grandfathered” from our old, longtime account. We have been permitted to send an invitation to a new user but are worried about what will happen when that new user accepts the invitation.
If we will not be permitted to add a 4th user, we could revoke the access of one of the existing 3 users. But, maybe after revoking that access, MailChimp will then restrict us to just 2 users?
We will appreciate any suggestions as to how we should proceed.
Thank you! JIm in Maine, USA
Hi Jim,
From what I’ve seen, if you delete an existing user then Mailchimp won’t allow for the adding of a further user (if you’re on a restricted user account).
I have free mailchimp account, and I cannot invite user. The invite user button gray out, I cannot click it. Should I upgrade my free acoount so I can activate multiple account feature?
With the new Mailchimp plans it isn’t possible to add new users. An paid plan will be required.
Hello I would like to know what happens when one of the users I have invited will try to login to the paid account. Will they be able to request and receive the verification code for the two-factor authentication process?
Gary, I am a designer for a company that is looking for an email marketing program/platform to use. There are about 35 team members who will need to access a “library” of company messages and be able to send them individually and on an as-needed basis. So, all of these users would need to be able to access the account and use it for their own set of clients (who are also a part of the whole company’s database of clients). Is that possible with mailchimp? Is it multi-user friendly for a corporate effort? Or does it give access to only one person at a time?
Hi Laura, yes you can achieve what you want with Mailchimp. Mailchimp is used by many very large and diverse organisations such as the U.N., CNN, P&G, U.S. government etc. Make sure you choose a Mailchimp plan that allows for the number of users you want and yes, Mailchimp is absolutely fine with concurrent logged in users.
